Before my camera malfuctioned i was able to take two images. The images i chose can be used on the; front page, contents page and the double sheet spread, because the images are medium close up of the musician with his quitar on clear view.

How much my magazine will cost and how often it will be published
The price of my magazine will be £3; this is because looking at the competition, aka other rock magazines, prices their magazines just less than three pounds. The reason I am charging three pounds is because I aim to make my issues last a longer period of time in-between released issues this lets me charge more due to the larger gap between issues.
Another reason I am charging more for the magazine is because I plan to put more details and information and segments into my magazine than competitor’s magazines so it will make my magazine more appealing and convince potential buyers to purchase the magazine.
The reason I will be releasing magazine issues every month is to get the most information into one magazine to make it thicker and worth more in value to readers of the magazine. By making it a monthly magazine I can charge more for the information that it holds because it will have more information and segments compared to other magazines.

My target audience
My music magazine is targeted at people who are fans of the music genre rock. Because rock is a generally enjoyed music genre there is no age I need to pin point as the correct target audience for the magazine.
However, rock music is loved by people of all ages my magazine will have to focus on a more centralized point in the age range already present. I don’t however need to focus on gender; this is because rock appeals to both male and female fans of all ages.
To get the right message for my magazine I need to think of a more centralized age group, since I want to make it a rock magazine I should consider who enjoys rock the most and who, more importantly, buys things related to rock e.g. cd’s, t-shirts etc.
The target age range of my magazine will be fourteen to twenty year olds; this is because between those ages the display of more rock fan based appearances, this is based on the amount of teenagers wearing rock bands t-shirts and listening to rock music a lot.
To get more in depth target audience I will have to consider the social classes of my target audience, the best social class for my magazine to focus on would be the C1 and C2 classes. This is because they are the most common to listen to rock music, however as mentioned before people of all ages enjoy rock and all people of all social classes can enjoy its music as well.
I have chosen the C1/C2 class because majority of people in those social classes are more likely to enjoy the darker side of rock, e.g. lron Maiden, more than someone in the social class A because in the higher social classes they would probable enjoy Queen more than Iron Maiden because of the general love of the lighter side of rock.
To create a magazine that will appeal to my target audience I need to consider the following; physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-actualisation (all explanations below are in order of list here).
• Many fans of rock, within my target audience, will like rock for its hard hitting songs and darker music compared to other music genres such as pop or artists like Abba. Because of that I have a more general idea on the people in the target audience of my rock music magazine.
• To get the best thought of the minds of my target audience I need to consider, in this order; physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-actualisation.
• First they need to know they can be safe and have what they need with in the magazine; this creates a feeling of security making it a friendlier and appealing magazine.
• By creating a magazine with a safe feeling sent across to rock fans using images and colour schemes that rock would be associated with so they can relate to the magazine and feel security.
• By appealing to the rock fans I can attract the attention of friend(s) in a social group who may all enjoy the same music and artists, this will help to gain the attention and existence of the magazine.
• By aiming at the fans of rock I can use the popularity and general knowledge of the genre to get the attention of the target audience so that the magazine will be a better seller.
• By including certain content and advertising it on my front page I can use an everyday wish or desires related to rock my target audience may have and exploit it to attract their attention towards the magazine thus aiding in the selling of the magazine.

Uncut LIIAR analysis

Front cover:
The main image dominates the front cover because it is bold and the most colourful thing on the cover. Because of that it is different from the colour scheme thus attracting the eyes of the viewers to the colourful front.
The text is on top of the image and the white font allows it to be placed in the centre of the image but not obscure the main image. The text on the front cover is well displayed due to the darker image being underneath the segments advertised on the front.
The mast head is behind all the; thumbnails, text and images. This makes the image more important and demand more attention than the mast head behind it. This creates promotion towards the image whist saying that we should know their magazines name even though it is partly blocked by the main image.
Contents page:
The main image dominates most the contents page, it is in a grey style form and this gives it a classy feel that makes us feel like the magazine is displaying the contents in an elegant form.
The text follows the colour scheme as the front cover; the white/grey text gives it an simple but classy/elegant feel to it. This allows the target audience to relate to the type of music the magazine represents.
The white and red text relates to the type of music the magazine the magazine represents because the magazine focuses on rock like Led Zeppelin’s type of music, which many would relate to red and white because of their choice of music and style.
Double sheet spread:
The double sheet images dominate the pages because of the bright colours mixed on the images, plus the fact that most of the text is on half the spread the other image can be fully displayed attracting the eyes and curiosity of the readers.
One of the double sheet spreads has a segment tittle that draws attention to it but because it is behind the main image it also makes the viewer see the main image which draws their attention to the segment article.
The text is following the colour scheme by being white, but the bright colour of the text and background image complement each other causing the image and text to work together to make a more appealing double spread sheet.
I-Ideology
The magazine represents darker rock in an way that grips the darker side, e.g. Led Zeppelin. This gives it an upper hand that other magazines uphold. This gives the magazine a reason that other magazines don’t share for readers to buy their magazines, because it is different and displays it with an aloof aura that entices fans of the magazine to buy it continue to enjoy its articles and segments.

Clash magazine Liiar analysis

Front cover:
The mast head dominates the top left of the magazine cover making it an eye attractive area of the cover, plus the bright colour on the dark background makes it stand out and give it the edge it needs to be a hard hitting rock magazine.
The main image dominates the front cover and demands the attention with his bold display of his muscles and forming his arms into an original way to attract views to this new display for a front cover separating it from the rest of the competition like NME.
The grey background works well with the bright coloured text because it makes the text highlighted by the font colour being a bright colour. However the text is still readable because the brightness is not too high that it is unreadable on the front cover.
The use of pull out quotes on the front cover help the magazine sell the articles inside by giving a taster that can encourage the reader to purchase the magazine, these pull out quotes do not dominate the front cover however they do attract attention by being a bright colour surrounding the main image of the posing man.
The price is detailed as if it were a promotion, this gives it the attention it demands because of the bright colours used and the position (top right). By giving the price such an attractive front it gives away the price easily, but the price is lower than the competitions magazines so the fact Clash have advertised the price of their magazine the way they have it gives some incentive for readers to purchase that magazine as it is cheaper than the competition.
Contents:
The contents has a bright white background, this gives it a clean and pure feel to it. Since the back ground is a plain white colour it allows other colours to stand out and become more interesting due to the difference in colour and not a difference in brightness.
The contents has black text that sits will on the pale blue highlight all the background has been given to stand out from the white and give it its own place to display information. The page numbers are bright pink continuing the colour scheme that makes them stand out and links them to the magazine.
The use of thumbnail images with text explaining it below with the page number gives off more incentive to carry on reading as you would be curious to what the image represents and why it is displayed.
The small amount of bright colours used on the contents makes it look more attractive to the segments that are highlighted by the two bright colours. The colours used on the contents make the contents look more higher and pure due to the white and grey used giving the contents an legendary feel because it does not need colour to be a rock magazine.
Double sheet spread:
The main image is placed over two pages that gives it the importance and domination of the double sheet insert. It has full colour, however the image was taken in a dark place with one light lighting up the people from below giving them a above approach feel to them creating a connection with the readers.
The text and thumbnail images are moulded by the main image, this makes the double spread more appealing by a free form layout giving it a relaxed and casual feel towards the readers.
The colour scheme used on this double spread is bright and is the opposite to the image, this creates a contrast that attracts the readers into text and encourages them to read the whole article.
I-Ideology
The magazine has a bright aura to it that invites readers to be in to buy their magazine; because of the bright look and feel they can sell the idea of their magazine to an audience of light rock fans. My magazine will be the opposite, I will make my magazine to be a mix and contrast between dark and light colours. I am aiming to create a magazine that relates to the colour schemes rock bands AC/DC and Queen have, because I am creating a magazine about the whole rock genre and the contrast of colours will represent the differences whilst being different to attract the readers.
I-Institution
The magazine represents the company “Clash”, the magazine represents the company by using its name as the mast head and sending the information the company stands for out in a displayed way to advertise the information the company has gathered. My magazine will represent all that is rock in an layout and colour scheme that will give elements of rock out to symbolise what my magazine stands for.
A-Audience
The target audience for the Clash magazine is focused at fans of rock and darker genres of music, the age range would be aimed at people aged 16 to 24. I gather this from the articles and decency of the magazine. My magazine will be different because I will be for a wider and slightly different target audience.
R-Representation
The magazine represents the company Clash, who focus on the darker music genres that young children and older citizens would not enjoy. Since the magazine focuses on the music preferences that Clash have chosen. For my magazine the focus is on rock so my magazine will represent all that rock represents, in my case freedom and rocking out.

NME LIIAR analysis

Front cover:
The mast head is bold and stands out with its bright thick white outline and red filling; however the masthead is behind the main image that dominates the front cover.
The main image of a musician dominates the attention of the reader; however the white text on the crimson background surrounding the musician stands out and commands the attention of the reader whilst the musician competes for attention creating tension on the front page making it more appealing and attractive.
The colour scheme is dark image and bright text, this colour conflict of red, black, white and gold demand the attention of viewers because of the conflict the front cover is creating with its dark front but bright text.
The barcode and price are both small and out of the way not commanding attention, this presents the information in the layout in a presentable way so that it does not impose any of the enticement on the cover.
Contents page:
The colour scheme is more basic and simple than the front cover; this gives more of the values that the magazine is trying to represent out by its change from a bold front cover to a simplistic contents that can say they are about the music and don’t need to glam up the contents page so they can show that value.
The main image gives a taster of the main story on the Artic Monkeys; this image is placed with some information on the image below to advertise the story more. The location of the image and the size aids in the promotion of the article that dominates the contents page.
The text is black on a white back ground giving the simple representation of dark and light in balance. The contents page is on the right of the page, by placing it on the side it does not attract attention but can clearly be seen by the reader.
Double sheet spread:
The double sheet spread is all the main image, this makes it the base of the double sheet spread and al its contents.
The black and red text is on top of the images surrounded by a white highlight, this creates an effect that creates a subtle feel of what the magazine represents and keeps to the colour scheme that relates the pages of the magazine together.
Half the double spread is just the image of the musician, this displays the musician as the main event on the pages so we can see that it is all about him, however there is no clue to what he has or is going to do so it encourages the readers to read the article to know what the musician is up to.
The large pull out quote gives out a segment of the article, but the text is a mixture of black and red this gives it more attraction for the readers to see and entices them to read the whole article to know what the pull out quote is on about on the whole. This makes the double sheet spread effective due to it encouraging the reader to find out what is happening in this segment.
I-Ideology
The magazine represents rock in an way that embraces the darker side, like AC/DC. This gives it an edge that other magazines don’t have. This gives them a reason that other magazines don’t have for readers to buy their magazine, because it is different and shows it with pride and that entices fans of the magazine to buy it and read it all.

Liiar Analysis of brief for music magazine
L-Language:
The magazine will include certain language items such as;
· Mast head
· Price/barcode
· Colour scheme
· Images
· Pull out quotes
All the above points make a magazine cover more attractive and more appealing to the viewers. By including a mast head they can see who the magazine is and can guess what the magazine is about by the name.
A display of the price accompanied with a barcode gives it a general worth, so viewers can see the price on make a decision on purchasing it by what it has in it and the barcode gives it that professional look and authority to be an official magazine.
With a certain colour scheme any magazine can represent and send across the attitude that was created for that certain magazine.
With images the advertising of the contents is sent across quickly and easily, but it gives off a hint of what the magazine is presenting so that can sell the magazines intentions as well.
Pull out quotes sell the story inside the magazine and draw the viewer to buy the magazine just because it is selling something that the viewer wants to read.
I-Institute;
Other magazines have a similar theme to the magazine I am going to produce; because of this the rivalry between the magazines will create a competition on sales. The readers want a magazine about their favourite type of music, so the choice will force them to decide which one will be better for their thirst for information.
To make my magazine be more popular I will have to make the name clear and force the potential readers to look at my magazine by creating an appealing front cover that should draw them in towards the excitement displayed on the front cover.
I-Idea-ology;
The message I will be trying to send across to the readers is that the magazine is the best one for all the latest information and what is new or exciting.
I want the moral the magazine will set to say that the magazine is the top and best magazine so read it. This moral is to give out the belief that the magazine will be the best and command the respect and attention of the readers.
A-Audience;
The target audience will be those of all ages who have either an interest or a burning passion for what the magazine is giving to the readers.
Age will not be within my target range because you can be any age to enjoy a certain genre of music, so age will not be an issue because the magazines sole purpose is to inform the readers about the happenings within that genre of music.
R-Representation;
My magazine is going to represent all that is within a certain music genre, this is going to be done by; the style, colours, images and message sent across by the combination of all the other aspects to take into consideration when creating the magazine.
The magazine represents a genre on the whole although there are sub-genres with in every genre so I will have to select key information and events from each sub-genre so my magazine will completely represent a whole music genre by displaying something from all the sub-genres of the main genre.
